No charges in inmate death

There are no grounds for criminal charges in the death of an inmate at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, City of Kawartha Lakes Police have concluded.

Police and paramedics were called to the facility Dec. 15, 2016, and Soleiman Faqiri, a 30-year-old inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police service has been investigating with the cooperation of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services. This involved speaking to witnesses.

No charges are warranted against anyone involved with Mr. Faqiri before his death, the police have concluded.

Assault charge

City police have charged a Millbrook man after a woman was injured at a city home last Tuesday night.

Police say a man went to the house to visit a friend. Paramedics were later called and a woman was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

A suspect went to the police station Wednesday, where he was arrested. Jeremy John Bates, 44, of County Road 10, Millbrook, is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He was released and will appear in court Nov. 16.

Impaired arrest

A man from Nepean was arrested early Friday morning after police received a call about a possibly impaired driver on Lansdowne St. E.

Officers spotted a suspect trying to get out of a vehicle in motel parking lot. A breath test led to charges. Police also allegedly found cannabis resin in the suspect’s possession.

Luther Victor Cary, 25, of Banner Road, Nepean, was arrested and charged with impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 mg blood alcohol content and possession of a schedule II substance (Cannabis resin over 1 gram).

He was released and will appear in court Nov. 16.
